‘I’m learning a lot already’: Rookie Ralston loving life in Westfield Matildas camp

Westfield Matildas rookie Liz Ralston has been lapping up every minute in camp with the Australian squad ahead of Friday afternoon’s (AEDT) clash with the United States in Colorado.

Ralston has earned her first call-up with the Westfield Matildas after a breakout season with Sydney FC in the Westfield W-League.

The 23-year-old played a key role in defence as the Sky Blues came from third position to win the Grand Final over Perth Glory.

It was those consistent and assured performances which convinced coach Ante Milicic to have a closer look at Ralston and she’s taking the opportunity to test herself with both hands.

“Ante [Milicic] has been really friendly and welcoming and giving lots of really good feedback which is great so I’m learning a lot already,” Ralston told www.matildas.com.au.

“There’s a really big emphasis on every drill and every session and making sure that you make the most of that opportunity.

“It’s really good and I’m learning a lot about my playing abilities.

“The girls and the staff have been really welcoming so it’s made the transition a little bit easier. It’s a really professional environment and a big step up to what I’m normally used to,” she added.

As well as working hard on the pitch since they arrived in Denver, the players have had the chance to get out and explore the city during their time off.

And while enjoying the experience, Ralston’s main focus is on putting her best foot forward should she get the chance against the USA at Dick’s Sporting Goods Stadium on Friday (AEDT).

“It’s a fairly daunting task to be in your first camp and to be playing against the number one ranked team in the world,” she admitted.

“But we’re playing with a really fabulous group of players and I’m really excited to be involved.”
