Ghana Star Could Miss World Cup

Ghana and Chelsea Star Michael Essien could miss the World Cup after his injury has taken longer to heal than expected.

Ghana and Chelsea star Michael Essien has picked up an injury which could see him miss the eagerly anticipated match with the Qantas Socceroos.

The Premiership star definitely misses the crucial English title run in that sees his west London side just one point above Manchester United with three games to play.

The 27 year old hoped to return to Premiership action against Stoke at the weekend but it looks more than likely that his English season-s over.

Essien hurt his knee on international duty at the Africa Cup of nations in Angola in January but had only expected to be out for six weeks.

It was anticipated that he-d return for the second leg of Chelsea-s Champions League loss to Inter Milan but the midfielder-s knee continued to swell up and the player underwent four lots of surgery in a fortnight.

Essien is a key player for Ghana in the World Cup and would be sorely missed if he was unable to play in the Group D matches.

“The World Cup is the best and most difficult football tournament in the world and I would rather be there fully fit,” he said on his official website.

“I-m just taking it day by day and if I can make it I will. If not I will have sit at home and support the team like every Ghanaian. Until I know how the injury improves in the coming days and weeks, will be difficult to say whether I will make the World Cup or not.”

Qantas Socceroo players and fans alike will be keeping an eye on his progress as he-s sure to be a big part of the game if he features against the Australian team in June.
