Get to know Lisa De Vanna

Superstar striker Lisa De Vanna will be a key part of the Westfield Matildas when they face the powerhouse Brazil in two internationals next month in Sydney and Newcastle.

Here are five things you might not know about this Australian football legend.

►Football was her first love – she slept with her ball as a youngster and spent every waking moment playing in the street with her brother and neighbours in Fremantle, Perth.

►She scored four goals for Australia in the 2007 World Cup and dedicated them to her father, who died three months before the tournament began.

►She has played in three FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments: China 2007, Germany 2011 and Canada 2015; and two Olympics: Athens 2004 and Rio 2016, playing 21 matches and scoring eight goals at those five tournaments.

►When she scored a brace in the 6-1 hammering of Brazil at the Tournament of Nations, she became the highest goalscorer in Westfield Matildas history with 42 (one more than Kate Gill).

►Before the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, she was the focus of an ESPN documentary, "Unstoppable", directed by award-winning filmmaker, Safina Uberoi.

You can see De Vanna and the Westfield Matildas take on Brazil in two clashes next month.

The first game is on Saturday September 16 at Pepper Stadium and the second on Tuesday September 19 at McDonald Jones Stadium.
