ESPN name 'Top 50 female footballers' with Sam Kerr, Ellie Carpenter and Caitlin Foord making the list

Throughout the week, ESPN released their ’50 best female players’ list with Sam Kerr, Ellie Carpenter and Caitlin Foord all being named on the list.

Sam Kerr finished in second place, just behind Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas, while Ellie Carpenter was number 27 and Caitlin Foord coming in at number 48.

Sam Kerr's high position is a reflection of her stellar club form, with the forward showcasing her big game credentials with a brace in her side’s Women's FA Cup Final win. Kerr also helped Chelsea to a third consecutive FA Women's Super League title, awarded her second golden boot in as many seasons with the club. 

Meanwhile, Ellie Carpenter found herself on the list for the first time and has shown why in a standout season with French giants Olympique Lyonnais, in a season that saw them reclaim the league title and win a record-breaking eight UWCL title. Carpenter demonstrated her lightning speed all season for Lyon, ruled out at the end of the season with an ACL injury that was sustained in the UWCL Final. 


Caitlin Foord rounds out the Aussies named on the list coming in at number 48. Foord's second season in England with Arsenal saw the winger make an impact, scoring four goals and providing three assists in the WSL competition, as well as scoring her first goal in the UWCL. Foord provided crucial attacking power to Jonas Eidevall's side, helping them to second on the table.
