Costa Rica has announced a 19-man squad to take on the Socceroos next Tuesday night, at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

Defender Jhonny Acosta and midfielder Yeltsin Tejeda, who was due to captain the side, have withdrawn due to injury. Michael Umana and Ariel Rodriguez have been drafted in as their respective replacements.

“Los Ticos” coach Jorge Luis has named Olympiakos forward Joel Campbell, as well as Everton defender Bryan Oviedo. Fans with long memories will remember dashing winger Christian Bolanos - the FC Copenhagen wide-man played for Deportivo Saprissa against Sydney FC in the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup.

Wellington Phoenix-s attacking duo of Carlos Hernandez and Kenny Cunningham have also both been named in the squad, as both countries continue preparation for next year's FIFA World Cup.

Currently ranked 31st in the world, the Costa Ricans secured their passage to Brazil on the back of their strong home form in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying. They finished second behind the USA, following victories on home soil against every other nation in the group. These wins against Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama and the US meant the Ticos were practising their samba with two games in hand.
