Chidiac scores again to continue great Spanish form

Westfield Matildas midfielder Alex Chidiac’s bright start to her Atletico Madrid career continued as the 19-year-old bagged another goal in a 3-1 win over Sevilla on Sunday (AEDT).

In just her fourth appearance for the Spanish giants, Chidiac came off the bench to score, a strike that helped the league leaders to their fifth win in as many matches this season.

Chidiac opened her Atletico account in a 6-0 count of Logrono last month and was on the pitch for just five minutes before netting against Sevilla.

Her strike sandwiched an own goal and a Jennifer Hermoso effort, meaning Macarena Portales’ late effort was no more than a consolation for the losers.

Atletico, who won the Primera Division Femenina title last year, have already scored 19 goals in their five wins, and top the standings by five points.

Chidiac, who made her debut in the Westfield W-League as a 15-year-old and for Australia as a 16-year-old, joined the Spanish giants from Adelaide United in July.

She was an unused substitute in one of Atletico’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clashes against Manchester City last month and could feature in the club’s round-of-16 tie against Wolfsburg that begins on Thursday morning (AEDT).

The first leg will be played in Germany, with Atletico to host the return fixture on November 1 (AEDT).
