Socceroo and Millwall star Tim Cahill has been nominated for a prestigious FA award thanks to his outstanding performance in Saturday's FA Cup Semi Final.

English FA Release: Socceroo and Millwall star Tim Cahill has been nominated for a prestigious FA award thanks to his outstanding performance in Saturday-s FA Cup Semi Final.   Cahill, who recently fulfilled an ambition by making his debut for the Australian national side as a late substitute against South Africa, has helped book his side an unlikely FA Cup Final place and a meeting with Premiership giants Manchester United.   Two players from Manchester United and another Millwall player have also been short-listed by The FA to fill the last place in The FA-s first ever ‘Team of The FA Cup-, run in partnership with UMBRO.   Cahill along with defender Darren Ward have been nominated from Millwall, while Manchester United-s Wes Brown and Paul Scholes are also in the frame.   Lion-s Midfielder Tim Cahill scored the winner for Millwall as they overcame fellow Nationwide side Sunderland 1-0 and defender Darren Ward was instrumental in denying Sunderland the possibility of an equaliser.   Brown starred at centre back and was influential in thwarting the attacking threat of Bergkamp, Aliadiere, Henry, Reyes and Kanu, whilst Paul Scholes scored the Manchester United winner on 32 minutes in his team-s 1-0 victory over the Gunners.   The FA now wants fans to decide the overall winner by voting on-line at www.TheFA.com and votes must be cast before 9.00am on Tuesday, 13th April. Fans clicking on their chosen Player of the Round now also have the chance to win tickets to the FA Cup Final. A winner will be drawn from all entries and will receive two tickets for The FA Cup Final.   FA Head of Football Development Trevor Brooking is urging fans to get behind the players.

“The four players performed magnificently in securing their teams an FA Cup Final place and shot at FA Cup glory at the Millennium Stadium in May. The FA Cup is a magical competition and it-s performances like his that live long in the memory of the world-s greatest domestic cup competition.”   The Player of the Round will win £3000 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for the local school, club or organisation of his choice. He will also receive an UMBRO gift of kit player package including XAI boots and training apparel as well as an engraved salver.   If Cahill is successful in clinching the fans vote ahead of the Manchester United pair, he will take his place alongside other Player of the Round winners such as Liverpool-s Bruno Cheyrou and Arsenal pair Jose Antonio Reyes and Freddie Ljungberg in The FA-s first ever Team of The FA Cup. Elite members of this team from previous rounds will be afforded The FA VIP treatment at this year-s FA Cup Final and will be honoured on the pitch before the Cardiff crowd.   Other winners include: James Curley (Oldham Town), Steve Guinan (Hereford United), Jeff Minton (Canvey Island), Lee Trundle (Swansea City), Paddy James (Lymington & New Milton), Darren Currie (Wycombe Wanderers) and Ashley Sestanovovich (Scarborough).   FA Cup Facts PLAYER OF THE ROUND ROLL OF HONOUR   1st Qualifying Round - James Curley (Oldham Town) - hat-trick in 3-2 win over Liversedge. 2nd Qualifying Round - Paddy James (Lymington and New Milton) - hat-trick in 8-2 win over Clevedon Town. 3rd Qualifying Round - Jeff Minton (Canvey Island) - Match-winning hat-trick in 4-3 win over Dover Athletic from 3-1 down and nine minutes left! 4th Qualifying Round - Steve Guinan (Hereford) - hat-trick in 6-1 win over Harrow Borough. 1st Round Proper - Darren Currie (Wycombe Wanderers) - Scored twice in 4-1 win against Swindon. 2nd Round Proper - Ashley Sestanovich (Scarborough) - scored winner in 1-0 giant-killing victory over Port Vale. 3rd Round Proper - Lee Trundle (Swansea City) - scored twice in 2-1 victory over Macclesfield. 4th Round Proper - Bruno Cheyrou (Liverpool) - scored twice in 2-1 victory over Newcastle. 5th Round Proper - Jose Antonio Reyes (Arsenal) - scored twice on 2-1 victory over Chelsea. 6th Round Proper - Freddie Ljungberg (Arsenal) - scored twice in 5-1 victory over Portsmouth.
