Cahill at it again for The Toffees

Qantas Socceroo midfielder Tim Cahill again underlined his importance to his club Everton with a strong performance in his sides 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

Qantas Socceroo midfielder Tim Cahill again underlined his importance to his club Everton with a strong performance in his sides 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.

In doubt for the Boxing Day clash, Cahill managed to play a full game and had a strong hand in both goals, including scoring the second to seal a valuable three points for Everton.

Both goals came in the second half and while the first goal was credited to Phil Neville, there was some conjecture as to whether it came off Cahill as he clattered into by the Bolton keeper, the ball rebounding into the goal.

There was no doubts about the second though, when Everton caught the Bolton defence napping and Cahill blasted a first time shot from a left wing cutback into the back of the net.

Aside from Cahill-s joy, there was little else to cheer about for the Aussies in the Premier League, with Lucas Neill-s West Ham held to a 1-1 draw at home by a 10-men Reading team, with Neill playing a full game; Mark Viduka played a full game and had Newcastle United-s only effort on goal with a spectacular overhead kick that was cleared off the line, as they lost 1-0 at Wigan Atheltic; Mark Schwarzer conceded three goals at Birmingham City, while Harry Kewell was not in the Liverpool squad that escaped with a 2-1 win at Derby County.

There was more joy however for several players in The Championship, with both Richard Garcia and Patrick Kisnorbo on target for their respective sides.

Garcia scored the first goal for Hull City in a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, blasting home a shot from 12 yards out, while Patrick Kisnorbo scored with a trademark header to put Leicester City two ahead, which they eventually held onto at home against Ipswich. David Carney remained on the bench for Sheffield United.

In Scotland, Scott McDonald was again held scoreless, although this time Celtic managed to win 2-0 away at Dundee United and maintain their two point lead over Rangers.

In Holland, PSV relinguished their lead at the top of the Eredivise after going down 2-1 away at FC Groningen, with Jason Culina replaced in the 82nd minute.

Brett Holman returned to the NEC Nijmegen starting side and was replaced in the 74th minute, as his side blew a two-goal lead to eventually draw 2-2 with VVV Venlo.
