The Qantas Futsalroos glorious run at the KL World 5s Futsal Tournament has come to end, outclassed by favourites Brazil 7-0 in their semi final last night in Kuala Lumpur.

Brazil, who are so far unbeaten and yet to concede a goal in the tournament, showed their superiority from the start and had the game comfortably in their keeping in the opening half.

“Without a doubt, the Brazilians are the best team in the tournament and they are a class above the Argentineans (who play Brazil in final),” said Australian coach Scott Gilligan after the match. “We experienced how tough it was to play them; it was like going up against a brickwall.”

Brazil, at full strength again for this match, grabbed the early advantage, with a 3rd minute and backed that up five minutes later with a second goal.

The killer goal came just before half time, which extended Brazil-s lead to three and the arrival of legendary Falcao onto the pitch didn-t help matters.

Brazil overpowered Australia in the opening ten minutes of the second half, adding a further four goals, but to Australia-s credit they held out in the final ten minutes to prevent a bigger defeat.

Brazil now plays Argentina in the final, a repeat of the 2003 final, which Argentina won 3-2. Argentina beat Australia-s chief ASEAN rival Thailand 5-3 in the other semi final.

By making the semi finals, Australia picked up a healthy USD$15,000 in prizemoney.
