Matildas Abroad Preview: Aussies kick off Toppserien round, Gielnik looks to continue winning start

It’s a big weekend ahead for our Westfield Matildas Abroad, with Norwegian league Toppserien and Sweden’s Damallsvenskan right in the midst of their fixtures.

Meanwhile, in France, one of our Westfield Matildas hopes to earn her starting debut in the upcoming Coupe de France Féminine final.

Norway    

Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry kick off Round 6 of the Toppserien in the early hours of Saturday morning as their side Avaldsnes IL take on last-placed Røa at 2:00am (AET).


Meanwhile, two Westfield Matildas youngsters will go head-to-head as Karly Røestbakken’s LSK Kvinner take on Teagan Micah’s Arna-Bjørnar at 12:00am on Monday. LSK Kvinner are looking to maintain their top-of-the-table spot while Arna-Bjørnar are hoping to break their four-game losing streak.

Sweden

It’s round 9 in the Damallsvenskan and Emily Gielnik’s Vittsjö will hope to make it three wins in a row against Umeå on Saturday night at 10:00pm.

Netherlands

Kyah Simon and Amy Harrison will continue their pre-season work with PSV with a scheduled first friendly of the new against RSC Anderlecht.  

France

Ellie Carpenter’s Olympique Lyon are preparing for the Coupe de France Féminine final on August 10. Her side will take on Paris Saint-Germain to try and claim their tenth Cup title.
