Aussies Abroad Preview: De Vanna and Gielnik out to keep pace at the top

Westfield Matildas strike duo Emily Gielnik and Lisa De Vanna enter their respective league matches in Germany and Italy this weekend aiming to improve upon their solid starts to the season.

Bayern Munich forward Gielnik is bracing for her second match against unbeaten Bundesliga leaders Wolfsburg in a week, having fallen to the two-time Champions League winners 3-1 in the German Cup last Sunday morning.

Gielnik was kept on the substitutes bench for that one having featured and scored the winning goal in the Westfield Matildas' 1-0 win over Chile on Tuesday November 12.

But a return to the fold could be just what Bayern require to shake things up in their crunch clash, which commences at 11.00pm on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Lisa De Vanna and her Fiorentina side host AGSM Verona at 12.30am on Sunday looking to remain hot on the heels of Serie A frontrunners Juventus.

The Violets returned to winning ways with a 3-0 triumph on the road against Bari on the weekend, having lost to Juventus and drew against second-place AC Milan the week previous.

De Vanna came on as a second half substitute in the match against Bari to assist Tatiana Bonetti's second goal of the match.

The Hammers are looking to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City last time out.
