Aussies Abroad: Cahill sees red

An incensed Tim Cahill has seen his English Premier League season end on a sour note, sent off after the final whistle of Everton-s 3-1 victory over Newcastle, for an altercation with the magpies- French midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Just seconds after the final whistle, the Qantas Socceroo walked over and put his left hand around Cabaye's throat at Goodison Park.

Two of Cabaye's teammates then rushed over and dragged a clearly outraged Cahill away from the Frenchman.

After being separated, the Australian stopped and pointed at Cabaye on a couple of occasions and gestured to the tunnel, appearing to want to go on with the altercation in the depths of Goodison Park.

The incident was eerily similar to Besart Berisha-s Suncorp Stadium blow up at Pascal Bosschart from the recent A-League season.

Everton manager David Moyes was quick to jump to the defence of his long-time midfield maestro.

"Tim was upset because Cabaye said something to him,” Moyes said.

Cabaye who had been on the receiving end of a lot of vitriol from Toffees- fans after pushing a ball boy aside in the first 45 was forced to apologise to him at the break and it has been suggested that incident may have angered Cahill.

Cahill, a regular user of Twitter, dodged the issue post-match on the social networking website.

He preferred to congratulate Everton for its achievements during the 2011/12 season.

The Socceroos star is set to join his Australian teammates later this month in camp for next month's World Cup qualifiers.

Australia play Denmark in a friendly in Copenhagen on June 2 before taking on Oman in Muscat on June 8 and Japan in Brisbane on June 12.
