Tim Cahill has continued his rich vein of form, scoring the opener in New York Red Bulls 2-2 draw with Houston Dynamo in their opening MLS playoff match this morning. Cahill latched onto a Thierry Henry cross with a trademark header on 22 minutes to give his team the lead, while compatriot David Carney was also involved in the lead up to the play. The New York No.17 set up a second ten minutes later and went on to claim player of the match honours.

Having led 2-0 at half time, New York will be disappointed to have conceded an equaliser in stoppage time. However the Red Bulls were forced to play the final 25 minutes with ten men due to a red card. The MLS minor-premiers will be confident of progressing from the tie when they host the second leg on Wednesday.

Matthew Ryan was again in goals and kept a cleansheet for Club Brugge in their win against KSC Lokeren. The recent Socceroo substitute's side moved up to third in the Belgium domestic league as they near the half way point of the campaign.

Another Socceroo who recently added to his international caps, James Holland was less successful in the Austrian Bundesliga. The midfielder was shown a red card on 51 minutes in Austria Wien's 3-0 loss to Wiener Neustadt.

Dario Vidosic scored and had an assist in FC Sion-s 3-0 home win against Socceroos teammate Oliver Bozanic-s FC Luzern. Vidosic set up Ebenezer Assifuah-Inkoom's 3rd minute opener before finding the back of the net in the 80th minute.

Mile Jedinak played a full match for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League as his side again succumbed to defeat. This time it was a 2-0 away loss to West Brom meaning Jedinak-s side remain bottom.

Championship action saw Rhys Williams take the pitch for Middleborough as they lost 1-0 away to Blackburn, while Shane Lowry and Scott McDonald both played in Millwall-s 2-2 home draw with Burnley as they stayed in 18th.

In the German Bundesliga Robbie Kruse played until just after the hour mark as Bayer Leverkusen went down 1-0 away at Eintracht Braunschweig.

Fellow Socceroo Luke Wilkshire helped Dinamo Moskva to a 1-0 victory over Tom Tomsk in the Russian Premier Liga as Moskva moved up to 5th place.

In the Scottish Premiership Dylan McGowan played in Hearts 2-0 home loss to St Johnstone, while Jackson Irvine played in Kilmarnock-s 2-1 defeat at Inverness.

Turning to Asia, Ryan Griffiths scored the opener for Beijing Baxy in their entertaining 4-2 Chinese Super League home defeat against Shenyang Shenbei.
