Aussie ref appointed to World Cup semi-final

The World Cup dream for the Westfield Matildas may have come to an end but Australia will still be represented on the World stage in tomorrow morning’s semi-final in Canada.

Australian assistant Referee Allyson Flynn has been appointed to the FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-final between Japan and England, to be played in Edmonton.

Flynn has performed strongly throughout the tournament and has already officiated three matches, including the Round of 16 match between Canada and Switzerland.

FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson congratulated Flynn on her appointment.

“Allyson is one of Australia’s leading Assistant Referees. Her appointment to the semi-final is a fantastic achievement and reward for her consistently strong performances,” Wilson said.

New Zealand Referee Anna-Marie Keighley will take charge of the match, assisted by fellow Kiwi Sarah Walker.
