Football Federation Australia today announced an 18-man squad which will play Kuwait in Wednesday's sold-out AFC Asian Cup qualifier at Aussie Stadium on Wednesday.

Head Coach Graham Arnold has selected a young squad with a blend of experience to represent Australia in a match which could secure the Socceroos a place at next year's AFC Asian Cup finals.

"It's a very important match and one which will play a vital role in our chances of qualifying for the Asian Cup," said Arnold.

"With Lebanon's unfortunate withdrawal there are less matches now and and so each game becomes even more vital."

"Kuwait can't be underestimated. They have been preparing in camp for some weeks now and they know that if they get something out of this match it could put them in a very good position to qualify for the finals."

Arnold trimmed his 22-man training camp squad down to the final 18 after a three-day workout in Melbourne earlier this week.

Perth Glory's Stan Lazaridis withdrew from contention after being struck down with the flu for most of the week.
