Alex Chidiac returns to Melbourne City on Westfield W-League eve

Melbourne City FC have completed their squad for the Westfield W-League 2020/21 Season with the signing of Westfield Matildas midfielder Alex Chidiac.

Alongside Jenna McCormick, Emma Checker, and Teagan Micah, the 21-year-old is the third Australian international to return from Europe and link up with the reigning champions.

It was announced last week that her time had come to an end with Spanish club Atletico Madrid, where she scored three goals in 22 games since joining in 2018.

After breaking into the Westfield W-League back in 2014 with Adelaide United, Chidiac linked up with Melbourne City as they won the double in 2015/16.

She will be determined to impress during her second stint at the club, with some newfound European experience under her belt.

“After a tough 12 months this is the right time for me to come back home for a change and a new challenge and I’m very excited to be returning to a quality league like the W-League," Chidiac told Melbourne City FC's website

“I felt right at home with City in my first season with the Club so I’m very excited to be back. The professional environment and culture that City has built over the years is something any player wants to be part of and is definitely something that I’m looking forward to returning to.

“It’s always exciting to be at a club that values its players not only as footballers but as individuals. I know the Club will do everything to get the best out of its players and in return I’ll do everything to give back.

“The team has been very successful over the years and I want to help contribute to what the players and staff have already built. On a personal level I just want to get back to playing the game I love.”

Chidiac will not be available for City's season-opening fixture against Brisbane Roar on Tuesday night as she is in the process of completing a mandatory 14 days of quarantine.
