5 key facts ahead of Westfield Matildas v Thailand

The Westfield Matildas will have their final hitout on home soil before next month’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup on Monday night when they take on Thailand in a friendly at nib Stadium.

Australia has never lost against Thailand in four previous meetings and with Sam Kerr set to play in front of her hometown, she’ll be keen to add to her impressive goal tally in the green and gold.

A huge crowd is expected to farewell Alen Stajcic’s side before they head off for Jordan, where they will need a top-five finish to book their spot at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Here are five fast facts ahead of the Westfield Matildas’ first-ever international clash in Perth.

  1. The Westfield Matildas have won each of their previous four games against Thailand, outscoring them 15-1 in that span, including a 5-1 win in their last meeting.
  2. The Westfield Matildas will be hoping to avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time since March 2017.
  3. Thailand has won just one of their last six games, however that victory came in their most recent outing; they will be looking for consecutive wins for the first time since August 2017.
  4. Only the Netherlands (9) scored more goals than the Westfield Matildas (7) at the 2018 Algarve Cup.
  5. Striker Michelle Heyman bagged a brace of goals in the last meeting between these teams, her first two goals in a Westfield Matildas jersey.
